Clearing The Path To A Slim Belly: Overcome Any Obstacles
Health as a PriorityWhen trying to achieve a slim belly, there will be some “normal” and common setbacks even after you have started on a decent workout plan and diet already. The mind actually doesn't like changes at first and this is where “convincing” excuses come up that prevent you from continuing with what works. I've seen a lot of people find success in their training up to certain point and then they let a “reason” stop them. And once the ball stops, it's hard to get it rolling again. Here are some common reasons why people stop their routines and some food for thought on each.
Work – Life Balance
Sometimes stressful days work and looming school projects can take too much time and energy away. It's easy to use as an excuse to not going to the gym on responsibilities that are seemingly more important. However, we all should have time for what is truly important. Why do you work or attend school anyway? Is it not because you towant be successful and live an abundant life? What most people miss, is the most important and basic point of all – your health. What is “success” at work and doing well in school for, without your health?
Not only should your health be top priority, but achieving and maintaining good health doesn’t really take all that much time. If you take 5 or 10 minutes to do something healthy like dancing to the beat of a fast music before and after work, is actually more affective then longer workouts anyway. Everyone has an extra 5 minutes a day and if you do this every day, twice a day, not only can you maintain it and develop it into a healthy habit, it also gives you that extra boost of energy at the start of your day and as a means to “decompress” at the end of the day from the stress from work or school. Just give it a try! Do it right now! Let me say again, your health is most important!
“I have a shoulder or arm injury that prevents me from working out.”
Don't let one part of your body prevent you from working out the rest of the body. Remember, if you are going for that slim belly, then you need to be working on the body as a whole and not just one part or focusing on your stomach anyway. There are large muscle groups in the bottom half of your body that you can use in your routine to maintain your workouts while your shoulder or arm heals. Remember, the more muscles you have, the faster and more efficient your metabolism is. Therefore, if you but work out the big muscle groups while the other parts are in recovery, you are still making a huge difference towards your fitness goals!
“I have a knee, or leg injury that prevents me from working out.”
Again, don't let one part of the body stop you from working out the rest. Even if you have to use crutches to get to your workout, there are tons of great seated workout routines you can use while your legs is “out of commission.” Stay steady with your routine and keep that metabolism up the whole time your healing. Working out releases the good chemicals and the good hormones in your body, which actually helps in the healing process. Therefore, just by the very act of keeping a healthy activity, aids in your healing as well.
I am too busy with the house, family, kids, etc:”
Again, this is all about priorities. If you plan to take care of anything or anyone, you paradoxically have to take care of yourself first. Once you put your health first, then you can protect and nurture the people you care about properly. I find that when people are too busy to take care of their basic needs such as health, then, they eventually realize after an emergency trip to the hospital, that they cannot afford “not” to take care of their health first.
Five or ten minutes a day is not asking a lot of your time when you think of the possible consequences, if you don't properly prioritize. The added and equally important benefit is that, you will be a great example to those you are caring for. That, to me is worth more than any household chore that might be put off for 5 more minutes.
Successful People Stop at Nothing
I know it's easy for someone to say “just put this first” and it's easier to advise than to practice. However, when you actually commit yourself to striving towards success and a healthy lifestyle, the mind will start working with you and you'll find a lot of the reasons that have stopped you before will suddenly end and the things that were once difficult become easy.
My advice to you while learning to get a slim belly is to be understanding yet stern with yourself and push though the beginning stages of adopting a healthy lifestyle mind set. Anyone who has been successful at anything was there working on thir goal NO MATTER WHAT. Once you reach that point where you will not let anything stand in your way... most obstacles move out of the way for you!
